Destroying the evidence

I often hear people say "The proof is in the pudding", instead of the more correct "The proof of the pudding is in the eating". A friend argues very perceptively that the correct form is not very euphonic.

Now, if the "proof" were really in the pudding, and someone ate it up, wouldn't they be destroying the evidence? Almost a crime, I think!

Another common erroneous usage is of the word 'criterion'. I have never heard it being used in it's correct singular form. It's just always being used as 'a criteria'.
